More Adventures from the Board of Elections

Down at the Board of Elections, I used those red pencils to scribble notes about who is running for what.
Here are some quick highlights:
Congress
Queens/Bronx Rep. Joe Crowley has a Democratic challenger by the name of...Jose Serrano.
That Serrano shouldn't be confused with the neighboring Rep. Jose E. Serrano, or his son, Jose M. Serrano.
Talk of how Crowley would fare against a serious, Bronx-based, Hispanic candidate may have to wait. This Serrano didn't submit enough petitions to withstand a challenge.
Judges
As if running for judicial delegate while under indictment, like Diane Gordon is doing, doesn't say something about the state of judicial conventions, how about this:
Within hours of submitting petitions to run in the Democratic Primary for Manhattan's Civil Court, 1st Vacancy, Patrick Hayes-Torres submitted more paperwork to formally withdraw his candidacy.
Jane Solomon should have no problem winning that race.
And some guy named John Lennon is running to be a judicial delegate in Manhattan.
Senate
Former City Councilman Noach Dear filed petitions to challenge Democrat Kevin Parker in Brooklyn.
Assembly
Manhattan Assemblyman Adam Clayton Powell, who was twice accused of rape (but never charged) is facing a Democratic primary from Eddie Gibbs, who himself has a criminal record. Gibbs told me he went to prison as a teenager for manslaughter. Since his release, he's worked as a comedian, in the music industry, and of course, got into politics, where I met him as Attorney General candidate Charlie King's driver.
Silver's Challenger
Mayor Michael Bloomberg apparently isn't plotting to oust Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, as was thought when Bloomberg was lobbying Albany for more funding for the City. Lawerence Capici filed to run as a Republican. Anybody know that name?
Independence Party
Charismatic political leader and social therapist Fred Newman - who says it's okay to have sex with patients - is running as a male state committee member for the Independence Party. And so is Jacqueline Salit.
