Woman Strikes Five With Car in Brooklyn

By Special to the Sun | October 24, 2007

A woman who lost control of her vehicle in Brooklyn Heights struck two victims in a crosswalk on Court Street before slamming into a bus shelter and injuring three more victims, police officials said. The driver, who police sources said was Paphany Bernette, 29, accelerated into the crosswalk in front of 16 Court St. at about 2 p.m. after apparently getting flustered when she backed into another car, police said. Ms. Bernette will likely be charged with reckless endangerment and vehicular assault, a police source said. While five victims were taken to area hospitals, none were seriously injured.
