Group Will Help Owners Prevent Foreclosures
The Bloomberg administration and City Council are putting forward $2.8 million to open a new non-profit organization along with private donors. The Center for NYC Neighborhoods is designed to help homeowners at risk of mortgage foreclosure.
Officials are calling the center, which will have a budget of $5.3 million in its first year, the largest program of its kind in America. The center will support community-based organizations that already work on housing issues.
It will provide information about how to prevent foreclosures, conduct training sessions for local groups, and try to ensure that New Yorkers are receiving good counseling and legal services.
