Newborn Baby Girl Found Alive in Dumpster

By SARAH GARLAND, Staff Reporter of the Sun | December 18, 2007

A newborn baby girl was found alive last night inside a Dumpster in Queens, where she had been left wrapped in a blanket and enclosed inside a paper bag, police said.

Police said a group of teenagers riding skateboards near the location of the Dumpster, at 93–18 Lamont Ave. in the residential neighborhood of Elmhurst, a section of Queens, had discovered the baby after hearing her cries.

The teenagers called 911, and the baby was taken to Elmhurst Hospital.

The infant was found at around 8 p.m. last night, and police said she was estimated to be about two hours old. She was in stable condition, despite below-freezing temperatures at the hospital as of yesterday evening.

There was no information about who left the baby, police said.
