Ferry Victim Receives $6.5M SettlementBy Special to the Sun A man who lost his leg when the Staten Island Ferry collided with a pier in 2003 has settled his personal injury lawsuit against the city for $6.5 million. 
Shriram Agni was commuting from work on October 15, 2003, when the ferry crashed into a pier at the St. George Ferry Terminal, killing 11 people and injuring 165. Mr. Agni suffered injuries on collision, and doctors were forced to amputate his leg below the knee. In a statement yesterday, a spokeswoman for the New York City Law Department, Kate O'Brien Ahlers, said: "We believe this was a fair and reasonable settlement in all parties' best interest. We hope it will bring a measure of solace to Mr. Agni." Of the 186 Staten Island Ferry injury cases stemming from the ferry crash, 123 have been settled, for a total of $34.1 million, according to the Law Department.
