Five Are Killed in City In Three One-Car Accidents

By SARAH GARLAND, Staff Reporter of the Sun | March 3, 2008

Five people died and two were injured in three separate auto accidents early yesterday, police said.

In the first accident, at 12:39 a.m., a Honda Accord slammed into an elevated train post on Atlantic Avenue at Buffalo Avenue, killing the two people riding in the passenger side of the car, police said. Police identified them as Naquana Kilpatrick, 25, and Gilberto Howard, 17, both of Brooklyn.

The driver, a 19-year-old man, was being treated for neck and back injuries at Kings County Hospital. He was not identified by police. The back driver's side passenger, a 19-year-old woman, was treated for a ruptured bladder and broken pelvis.

In the second accident, 10 minutes later, a 2008 BMW crashed into a truck parked on Avenue D between Rockaway Avenue and Rockaway Parkway. The BMW had been traveling westbound before it careened out of control, instantly killing the driver, Warren Davies, 35. A passenger, Roger Gill, 35, died two hours later at Brookdale Hospital. Police said excessive speed likely led to the accident.

In the third accident, a car driving westbound on the Long Island Expressway rammed into a guardrail and broke through near exit 22A. The car fell into Flushing Meadow Park below, killing its driver. No one else was in the car.
