Baryshnikov Center Names Stanford Makishi as Executive Director

The Baryshnikov Arts Center has appointed the former director of creative services at Carnegie Hall, Stanford Makishi, as its new executive director, the center announced yesterday. Mr. Makishi, who danced with and then worked in the administration of the Trisha Brown Dance Company between 1992 and 2000, replaces Christina Sterner, who resigned from the position at the end of last year, after helping Mikhail Baryshnikov develop many projects, including the White Oak Dance Project.

The Baryshnikov Arts Center opened in 2005 with the mission to develop and host interdisciplinary performance art. The center announced last year that it will acquire a 299-seat theater in the 37 ARTS building in Hell's Kitchen, where it has held most of its activities. The theater will be named the Jerome Robbins Theater.
