The 52nd Street Project, a nonprofit that pairs at-risk youth with theater artists to create original plays, is breaking ground next month on a 17,000-square-foot theater facility on 10th Avenue between 52nd and 53rd streets. The theater is scheduled to open in 2009. The 52nd Street Project has been fostering connections between artists and at-risk youth in Hell’s Kitchen for 25 years; artists who have participated as mentors include Billy Crudup, Lili Taylor, Cynthia Nixon, and Jon Stewart.
