From Harvard, Seth Gitell reported in the Sun this morning on Clinton adviser Mark Penn's effort to undermine Senator Obama's reputation as an unwavering critic of the Iraq War. This seems to be a concerted effort by the Clinton camp, as the Post reported that President Clinton made similar comments at a fund-raiser in Manhattan last week.
Now, the Obama camp is pushing back. Some of the results of that effort can be seen in this ABC Web piece which finds Mr. Obama has been consistent in his anti-war stance. Setting aside the substance of the Clintons' critique, it doesn't seem to be a smart tactic.
In this video which accompanies the ABC story, Mr. Obama sounds almost prophetic about the dangers involved in an invasion of Iraq. Why Mrs. Clinton's team would want Mr. Obama's strongly anti-war statements from 2002 in broader circulation is beyond me.
There was also one public hint this afternoon that the Clinton camp is a bit jittery about the pro-Obama viral video that sends up Mrs. Clinton's candidacy as a totalitarian undertaking. "It cuts right to the heart of the Clinton campaign," Democratic political strategist and longtime Clinton ally Paul Begala said on CNN. He said he was referring to Democrats' general suspicion about front-runners, like Mrs. Clinton.
