It's not every day that Jesse Jackson denounces the Congressional Black Caucus, but today is such a day.

At issue: the CBC's decision to co-sponsor two debates (one Republican, one Democratic) for the 2008 primaries with Fox News.

This, of course, comes not long after the Nevada Democratic Party was dissuaded from doing the same after an outcry arose on the leftward side of the blogosphere.

"I am disappointed by the Congressional Black Caucus Institute's partnership with FOX, and strongly encourage them to reverse that decision," Mr. Jackson said in a press release today. "Why would presidential candidates, or an organization that is supposed to advocate for Black Americans, ever give a stamp of legitimacy to a network that continually marginalizes Black leaders and the Black community? FOX moderating a presidential debate on issues of importance to Black Americans is literally letting the Fox guard the henhouse - FOX should be rejected."

While no fan of Fox News personally (for non-ideological reasons), I do find the response of many left-wing interest groups counterproductive. Fox has a tremendous audience. Insulting and isolating one's self from that audience just to spite the network itself just seems silly. Saying, "We won't go on Fox News because you don't give us equal time," is also a somewhat silly stance.

Should Republicans boycott MSNBC and CNN? CBS? NBC? ABC? PBS?

It's all just childish nonsense.

At the same time, however, Fox might as well just drop the pretense. It's the Republican channel. And that's great. Good for it.
