Yesterday, I asked for your thoughts on Rudy Giuliani versus Michael Bloomberg for president, after a Quinnipiac poll was released in the morning showing Mr. Bloomberg beating the former mayor among New Yorkers.

Reader Tim weighs in with the thought that: "Mike ends Rudymania with a shrug and seven words...'Yeah, well, I fixed the schools too.'"

Rightmom, however, has had just about enough of our trans-fat-banning mayor: "Bloomberg has placed more restrictions on the way people should be able to live their lives than any one mayor I have ever seen," she writes. "We do not need a whole country of restrictions. I hope he enters and goes broke trying to win. Then he can see how the other three quarters of the country live."

Reader Michael thinks both candidates are qualified, but only Rudy can win, because he can win conservatives and the South. "Giuliani, unlike Bloomberg who is extremely liberal, can capture conservative voters. Why? Giuliani's rationale of supporting originalists / jurists of the law such as Roberts and Alito (former colleagues of Mayor Giuliani) for the Supreme Court are very assuring." What's more: "As mayor, Giuliani wanted to arrest Yasser Arafat. Giuliani's contempt for the thug Arafat is exactly why people admire him. Giuliani never forgot Leon Klinghoffer. If the terrorists killed but one American, that was too many for Rudy Giuliani. This resonates with Americans, both Democrats and Republicans."

Reader Kelly notes that, "Bloomberg is the inoffensive, politically correct team player NY feels secure proposing. Rudy is the abrasive, independent loose cannon. I prefer Rudy, which is perhaps why I am no longer in NY and, after a lifelong affiliation, no longer a Democrat."

Last but not least, reader Jay puts it all in perspective: "Mayor Mike has no chance, no matter how many millions of his own dollars he spends, to convince voters in middle-America to vote for him. Therefore, the only reason for Bloomberg to run for President is to give his consultants a few more months of work."
