Sounds like Senator McCain wouldn't get CBS News foreign correspondent Allen Pizzey's vote, if Mr. Pizzey had one to cast. In an interview on a CBS blog, he blasts Mr. McCain's recent claim that his well-guarded visit to a Baghdad market Sunday is an indicator of how things are improving.

"It's disgraceful for a man seeking highest office, I think, to talk utter rubbish. And that is utter rubbish," Mr. Pizzey said. "It's electoral propaganda. It is simply not true. No one in his right mind who has been to Baghdad believes that story...He's talking rubbish. And he should not get away with it."

Mr. McCain's rosy descriptions of Iraq previously came under fire from another TV reporter, CNN's Michael Ware, who said the Arizona senator was in "neverland."

Last week, Mr. Pizzey posted a Web piece with a more detailed and tempered retort to Mr. McCain's assertions.

Reporters who have spent time on the ground in Iraq were understandbly upset by Mr. McCain's suggestion that the press was ignoring good news there. When you put your life on the line to cover a story, you tend to be a bit defensive about criticism. Still, Mr. Pizzey's comments are a more direct challenge to a prominent political figure and presidential candidate than one usually sees in mainstream American journalism.

Turns out Mr. Pizzey is Canadian, not American. So maybe that explains it.
