Via Instapundit, from a Draft Fred Thompson rally in Cookeville, Tennessee, yesterday:
Some rather odd comments are made in this video by Rep. Zach Wamp, the Republican congressman from Tennessee heading up the Draft Fred Thompson movement.
First off, he says that we need a president who understands that radical Islam is sheltered by moderate Islam, which won't stand up to radical Islam and "that Muslim women are having three-and-a-half children each, while people in the West are now having less than two children each. So we're going backwards and they are growing, and these threats are real." Is Fred Thompson going to make American women more fertile? (These guys might think so.)
Second, Mr. Wamp brags that Fred Thompson "is six foot six, he has a commanding voice, he has a commanding presence, he makes people feel secure, he makes us feel confident." Is Fred Thompson's height really his best asset? (These people probably hope so.)
And, Mr. Wamp adds, "He's from Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, so he is innately conservative. You don't grow up in his skin in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, without having traditional, family, social-conservative values deep in your DNA." Maybe it's just my northern, Yankee sensibilities, but I'd really like to know what "skin" means in this context.
