Today, the Supreme Court hears oral arguments in Wisconsin Right to Life vs. FEC, an important campaign-finance case which may determine whether private groups will be allowed to air issue advertisements that mention the names of candidates for federal office in the days before primary and general elections.
After the oral arguments are over, the Cato Institute will be holding a briefing with attorneys on both sides of the issue. It will be broadcast live over the Web here.
For anyone who thinks McCain-Feingold was an unconscionable violation of the First Amendment, this case holds the potential to undo at least some of the damage. And, perhaps, there's more than a bit of irony in the fact that these oral arguments take place on the very day Senator McCain officially launches his presidential candidacy up in New Hampshire. This law is a black mark on his record he can never wash away.
