Further on Mitt, this David Bernstein profile is well worth checking out.
The most remarkable thing, I think, is how successful Mr. Romney has been in convincing the press that his fundraising matters despite his lack of movement in national polls (so far). Furthermore, his Iowa-straw-poll-focused campaign is based on the exact same premise: that meaningless indicators can be the path to the GOP nomination, so long as the press goes along.
The Iowa straw poll, of course, is a farce with no predictive value. But that won't stop a lazy press corps from treating it as "important." (That's not to say this site won't cover it — but these things have to be given context.)
