Mayor Giuliani has made amends with an Iowa farming family that his campaign snubbed earlier this month because it wasn't rich enough to qualify for the estate tax, better know to Republicans as the "death tax."

A short while ago, the campaign released a statement announcing Deborah Von Sprecken as Jones County chair in Iowa. Mrs. Sprecken had recently surfaced in stories by the Associated Press and the Des Moines Register complaining that the Giuliani campaign had asked to hold a rally at their farm only to cancel a few days later when aides learned that the Van Spreckens weren't "millionaires." The campaign had wanted to use the backdrop for a speech decrying the "death tax."

Mrs. Van Sprecken had told reporters she was undecided about who to support for president.

Well, after two hours of face time with Rudy himself, that has apparently been cleared up. The campaign said Hizzoner apologized for the "misunderstanding" surrounding his last visit to the state.

"I am honored to have Deborah as part of my team in Iowa. As the hard-working owner of a family farm she understands the importance of cutting taxes and implementing fiscal discipline to grow the economy and increase opportunity," he said in the statement. "Her support is tremendous and will be of great value to our efforts in Iowa."
