Here's the rest of the video from last night's Republican Party dinner in Midtown, written up here by our Matt Chayes. John McCain was the keynote speaker, Rudy Giuliani spoke earlier in the night.

Apparently, Mitt Romney had initially accepted an invitation to be there, but then declined. That's not a joke. Another flip-flop.

Anyway, on to the video...

Here, we have some protestors. You always have protestors in this city:

Then, let's go to some clips from Mr. Giuliani's speech.

Early on, Mr. Giuliani made a point of saying some nice things about Mr. McCain (and getting in a good joke along the way):

Here's Mr. Giuliani challenging the Democrats to have a debate on Fox News:

Here's Mr. Giuliani asserting that "The people of America aren't right" that the country is going in the wrong direction:

Here's Mr. Giuliani on needing to name our enemy, "Islamic, extremist terrorists," and the fact that the Democrats can't:

Here's Mr. Giuliani asserting that Democrats are also patriotic (perhaps a controversial statement in a Republican crowd):

And here's Mr. Giuliani sounding a bit like Howard Dean, listing all the states he can win:

As for Mr. McCain's speech, he chose to pace around with the microphone, as opposed to just standing behind the podium. It's an effective technique for him, making him seem more vigorous and energetic — something a candidate with a serious age issue needs to do.

Anyway, here are some clips from his speech... (Earlier, I posted Mr. McCain being forced to praise Mr. Giuliani's debate performance.)

Here's Mr. McCain on Iraq, with a pretty heavy dose of criticism for the Bush administration (though most of the lines are pretty pointedly aimed at Dick Cheney):

And here's Mr. McCain laying into Harry Reid pretty damn hard:

National Review said it best the other day. Mr. McCain is the candidate for Republicans who are mad as hell.

Overall, two very impressive candidates showed up last night. Both were in top form.
