Further on my column and post this morning, New Jersey's Republican Party is moving to do a big favor for Rudy Giuliani. The Atlantic's Web site has a very informative dispatch.
Essentially, they are considering a rule change that would make their primary winner-takes-all, meaning Mr. Giuliani would almost certainly get all of the state's convention delegates. Without the rule change, the delegates would be awarded by congressional district, and other candidates could peel off some despite Mr. Giuliani's commanding lead in the state.
Marc Anbinder says "the benefits for Giuliani are calculable." Essentially, the move would save the Giuliani campaign $6 million it wouldn't have to spend in New Jersey and could spend elsewhere.
It's not a done deal yet. But it would be a huge boon to Mr. Giuliani's February 5 strategy.
