Here's that new LA Times poll (PDF). The results (from an expansive list of candidates):
Giuliani: 27% Thompson: 21% McCain: 12% Romney: 10%
And here's the LA Times write-up.
Interestingly, when the field is narrowed, and respondents are asked to pick between just the Big Four, the Republican primary breaks down like this:
Giuliani: 32% Thompson: 28% McCain: 17% Romney: 14%
Typically, Mr. Giuliani has been picking up most of the slack when the field is narrowed (because he's been most voters' second-choice candidate). Now, it seems, Mr. Thompson is picking up some of that slack.
Meanwhile, here are the results on the Democratic side:
Clinton: 33% Obama: 22% Edwards: 8%
They also run some general election match-ups and find the following: "Despite Clinton's lead, Obama is the strongest Democrat in hypothetical matchups with Republicans in the general election, running even with or well ahead of the GOP's top contenders."
