The McCain campaign is pushing a poll today showing John McCain in the lead among Republicans in Texas. The rundown is:
McCain: 27% Giuliani: 23% Thompson: 11% Romney: 6%
It's plausible, especially if Hispanics in the state support Mr. McCain's immigration position and make up a decent portion of the Republican sample. I'd note, however, that there's something deeply suspicious about the fact that the general election match-ups in this poll show a dead heat between Republicans and Democrats. This is Texas, folks. Something's off.
