For Senator Obama, the "who" this morning was the man endorsing him for president.

Mr. Obama held a conference call with reporters this morning to announce the endorsement of a New Hampshire congressman, Rep. Paul Hodes. But at one point, the Illinois senator had a bit of trouble recognizing Mr. Hodes' voice.

After Mr. Obama finished answering a question from a Daily News reporter, Michael McAuliff, about his imbroglio with Senator Clinton over diplomacy, Mr. Hodes started to chime in on his behalf. "Mike, let me just follow up for a second, because I think what…" he began.

"I'm sorry, who's this?" Mr. Obama interrupted.

"This is Paul Hodes," the lawmaker said, before clarifying: "Congressman Hodes."

Mr. Obama then allowed him to continue.

An Obama spokeswoman said afterward that the "sound was hard to hear on the call" and while they were apparently not in the same room then, Messrs. Obama and Hodes held a press conference in New Hampshire earlier.
