According to RCP Blog, attendance at this year's Ames poll is around 30,000-33,000. That marks a decline from 40,000 in 1999. There may also end up being fewer votes cast.

It certainly doesn't help that three out of four major candidates aren't here — something easy to forget amidst rampant speculation about how Sam Brownback might or might not place.
