CBS News has a new poll out on the GOP primary. It only gives respondents the choice between the top-four candidates. It was completed August 8-12, before the Iowa Straw Poll results were known. Here are the results:

Now July June
Giuliani 38% 33% 34%
Thompson 18% 25% 22%
Romney 13% 8% 6%
McCain 12% 15% 21%

John McCain's slide toward single digits continues. Fred Thompson could be feeling the effects of his peek-a-boo act.

Also, on Rudy Giuliani, it's worth noting (see question 11, page 4 of the PDF): More than twice as many Republicans said "mayor of New York" was the first thing that came to their minds when hearing the name "Giuliani" as opposed to "9/11 attacks."
