So, I'm in a cab on the way to a plane to another plane to a rental car to Ames, Iowa, and the Ames Straw Poll. What better time to offer some seat-of-the-pants predictions? (If I'm off, I'll claim that you can't trust predictions from a guy writing from a cab.)
To keep it simple, I'll just try to rank the11 candidates on the ballot. Except for the margin of Mitt Romney's victory (oops, gave away my first prediction), I won't try to estimate percentages. Without further stalling:
Romney (by 15 points) Brownback Giuliani Fred Thompson Huckabee Tancredo Ron Paul John McCain Tommy Thompson John Cox Duncan Hunter
And, as to why I'm headed out to Ames after trashing it so much in my column this morning: The results may be meaningless (or, shall we say, may be meaningful in a way very different from that which is advertised), but there's still a lot to be learned from watching how it goes down.
See y'all in Ames!
