The Fred Thompson vs. Rudy Giuliani war of words has escalated. Mr. Giuliani's communications director, Katie Levinson, has gone on the record with this:
Those who live in New York in the real world - not on TV - know that Rudy Giuliani's record of making the city safe for families speaks for itself. No amount of political theater will change that.
I suspect we'll see a lot of this directed at Mr. Thompson: "TV," "political theater." Mr. Thompson has played a tough prosecutor; Mr. Giuliani has been one (though, um, so has Mr. Thompson — just not in New York). Mr. Thompson has played a tough-as-nails military man; John McCain is one.
The Thompson response is pretty clear and compact: Reagan.
