In this "Today Show" clip, John McCain claims he never intended to compete in the Straw Poll:

That, however, is not what his campaign said when it launched its Iowa leadership team a while back: "The influential state leadership team will continue to build Senator McCain's Iowa organization in preparation for the Iowa Straw Poll and Iowa Caucus."
