Fred Thompson Camp on Schiavo: 'no role for the federal government to play'

I asked for the Thompson campaign to clarify the former senator's comments earlier on the Terri Schiavo case:

Thompson spokesman Jeff Sadosky offered this: "While he believes in the sanctity of life, he also believes that it was a decision for the family to make under state law, so there was no role for the federal government to play."

Thus, this would be an implicit criticism of Congress and President Bush for federalizing what should have been a state issue. Along with gay marriage, this now makes two issues where Mr. Thompson's commitment to federalism is putting him at odds with the religious right.
