The latest ARG GOP primary poll in South Carolina is extremely odd — probably crossing over into implausible:
Romney: 26% Giuliani: 23% McCain: 15% Thompson: 10%
This would mean Mr. Romney has jumped almost three-fold in the poll since August. Mr. Thompson would have had to fall 11 points since then. September was a less-than-spectacular month for Mr. Thompson, but it was a month where he got a significant bump from entering the race. Meanwhile, nothing's happened regarding Mr. Romney that could explain such a startling turnaround.
If the news is really that good for Mr. Romney in the Palmetto State, we'll see it show up in more polls down the road. But, for now, this has to be seen as an outlier.
