DNC Vignettes: $80 Parking, Former Chair at the Fence

Hordes of people are milling amid some chaos outside the Invesco Field as tens of thousands of delegates, press, community members, and VIPs try to make their way into the heavily secured site.
There's no parking for the general public at the stadium where Senator Obama is to speak tonight. As a result, some gouging is going on (call it aggressive pricing, if you want.) Most audacious: $80 for a spot in a bar parking lot near the main public entrance.
It's crazy at and near the various entrances. At some, there are huge lines. Others are just for vehicles. Security people at the fenceline give contradictory instructions about where to go. I ran into a confused looking former chairman of the Democratic National Committee, Steven Grossman, looking for the right gate after having walked about half way around the perimeter. He approached police moments after medical marijuana protesters passed by shouting, "Free the Weed" and "Smoke Pot, Not People."
Mr. Grossman said he was told at the South Gate that delegates needed to go all the way around to the other side of the stadium. However, police told him that entrance was only for those coming by bus. He and some companions were urged to go back to the South Gate, but he seemed a little reluctant, since he just walked about a mile after being decisively sent away from that gate.
Also fodder for the GOP celebrity-watch, signs in a loading dock area at Invesco say, "Autograph Seeking Prohibited." I think the signs are permanent and not for tonight's event, but they're still amusing.
