Diane von Furstenberg was yesterday elected president of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, a move that will give the designer a formal platform for her civic leanings (most recently she's taken up the cause of Friends of the High Line). "I would like to go to the mayor and see what he can do for us," Ms. von Furstenberg told Women's Wear Daily. One of Ms. von Furstenberg's biggest supporters is Anna Wintour, and with the two brainstorming together, the organization should become more international and chic. Ms. Wintour has even brought some literary shine to the council: she was the chief organizer of an event at the New York Public Library a couple of summers ago at which designers Vera Wang, Sean Combs, Jack McCullough and Lazaro Hernandez read excerpts from their favorite books. New members of the board at CFDA include Calvin Klein's designer Francisco Costa, Isabel Toledo, and Leigh Bantivoglio.
