In a suite next to the ballroom, the debutantes and their male admirers waited for their big entrance.

At the Viennese Opera Ball, held Friday, young men and women dressed up and performed the waltz for a grown-up multinational crowd, who later joined them on the dance floor. The Duchess of York said she did not plan to dance as she did not have a partner. Alessandra Ford Balazs
