In today's column, a photo tribute to the honorees and friends of Citizens Committee for New York City. The honorees included Lisa Schiff for her work at Jazz at Lincoln Center (Wynton Marsalis, who introduced her, also mentioned her personal attention to JALC's employees, finding the best doctors for them and always following up); Jonathan Capehart, who received this New York tribute just as decamps for Washington DC where he'll be joining the editorial board of the Washington Post; Karen and Irwin Redlener for creating the Children's Health Fund; the Coney Island Avenue Project; newspaperman Peter Hamill, and opera legend Martina Arroyo.
Wesley Autrey also received recognition for his subway heroism; I quote him in the column.
Latonia Edwards from DeWitt Clinton High School received a scholarship award from the family of Henry Cornell, a graduate of the school who is chairman of Cititizens Committee for NYC as well as a bigwig at Goldman Sachs. She was chosen on the merits of an essay she submitted about teen pregnancy, although there were several finalists whose essays also impressed Mr. Cornell. So each received a cash stipend.
Check out the photos here, but you'll need to turn to the hard copy of the paper to see the spread as it ran, as it isn't available online (we're working on it!).
