Henry and Marie-Josee Kravis both had solo time at the podium last night to introduce (Henry) and present (Marie-Josee) the Henry R. Kravis Prize in Leadership, awarded by Claremont McKenna Collega, Henry's alma mater.
This year the prize and $250,000 went to the Forum for African Women Educationalists. The organization educates girls and women, often saving them from forced marriages and dire poverty.
The prize is just one way Claremont McKenna is promoting the study of best practices in nonprofits on its campus. It also gives stipends to students to spend summers working at NGOS, and teaches best practices in leadership through the Kravis Leadership Institute.
The setting for the event was the Temple of Dendur. Guests included Catie and Donald Marron, First Deputy Mayor Patricia Harris, and Kathleen Lacey Hoge.
