Celebrity photographer Aubrey Reuben, who for two decades has been a snap-happy widower about town, mainly on Broadway, often for The New York Post, and almost always with a beautiful woman on his arm, is engaged to Dr. Xiuli Meng, who practices physical medicine and rehabilitation at New York Downtown Hospital. "It happened by accident," Mr. Reuben said yesterday at the Wildlife Conservation Society gala in Central Park. "We were playing Broadway tunes at home, and 'Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend' came on, and Xiuli turned to me and said 'Carol Channing had it right.' She knew what she wanted, so I gave it to her: a diamond ring. I got down on my knees and proposed." The engagement came before Salon published an oral history of Mr. Reuben's love life, in which the 77-year-old said, "I don't want to marry anybody again. I've done it, and it's enough. I don't believe in marriage." But Ms. Meng, 36, won his heart. Before the proposal, he had already told Salon about her, and he seemed smitten: "I read a biography every night, and she reads the papers. We put out the lights, screw, then we hug each other, go to sleep. In the morning we screw again before she goes jogging. It's wonderful! I love her body. I got to hold on to her little tits. It's great for my arthritis.... It's better than jogging in the park, it's better than seeing a Broadway show, it's better than photographing a celebrity."
