MUSIC

SURF AND SONG This weekend, bypass the Hamptons and Fire Island for Montauk, and plan to make a trip to what is arguably the town's hottest venue, the Surf Lodge. A performance by Rhett Miller, best known as a member of the Old 97s, is featured as part of the Lodge's ongoing summer concert series. Formed in 1993, the Old 97s have released several albums, among them 2001's "Satellite Rides," a blend of country and rock that received critical praise and got significant airplay on college radio. Apart from being the guitarist and lead singer for the band, Mr. Miller is also one-half of the Ranchero Brothers, an acoustic duo he formed with the bassist for the Old 97s, Murry Hammond. But Mr. Miller's solo career is taking off, with three albums already under his belt, including the well-recieved "The Instigator," released in 2002. Another reason to go to this surfer hangout? Celebrity chef Sam Talbot's cooking — fans of Bravo's "Top Chef" might remember him from his season two appearance on the reality show.

Sunday, 5 p.m., Surf Lodge, 183 Edgemere St. at Elwell Street, Montauk, Long Island, 631-668-2632.
