Let's Go Out Tonight
TALKS
EXECUTIVE POWERS "Who Really Chooses the President?" is the title of a talk tonight at the Museum of the City of New York by John Harwood, the chief Washington correspondent for CNBC. Head to the museum to hear Mr. Harwood discuss his recent book, written with Gerald Seib, "Pennsylvania Avenue: Profiles in Backroom Power" (Random House), which argues that while lobbyists, public relations officials, moneymen, and other figures in Washington might not have the spotlight, they often exercise undue power and influence. The book addresses the complex relationship between Americans and their government and the troubling question of whether citizens who work outside the confines of Pennsylvania Avenue have the power to make change. Before the talk, catch the exhibit "Campaigning for President: New York and the Ongoing Election," which runs at MCNY until Election Day. Mr. Harwood has covered politics for the Wall Street Journal, MSNBC, NBC, and PBS, among other outlets. Reservations for the talk are required.
6:30 p.m., Museum of the City of New York, 1220 Fifth Ave. at 103rd Street, 212-534-1672, ext. 3395, $9 general, $5 members, students, and seniors.
