9/11 is a point of validation and pride? As great as NYC is, LA is nothing to raise your nose at when it comes to culture. In contemporary programming in art (MOCA) or music (LA Phil), the city of angels is at the cutting edge. And when it comes to food, a TRUE foodie can look past Per Se and pizza and also recognize LA's strengths in having a monopoly of so many cuisines that you can't get at such a level anywhere else in the country (persian, chinese, vietnamese, korean, armenian). I've never understood this one-sided hatred of Los Angeles. This defense of New York is like a jealous 3 year old pre-emptively beating on his younger brother. NYC is established, grand and monolithic and beautifully structured, and LA is transitional, free, organic and beautifully democratic. Both are strange extremes of America but equally interesting.
