in response to reader comment: Vietnam Led to Cold War Victory

DemocracyRules has it right. Walter Cronkite and his friends had an agenda and had it all wrong. They said that the South Viet (ARVN) soldiers were corrupt and cowardly. Having flown joint missions with them in 68-69 I will comfortably say that they were some of the bravest, most dedicated fighters I ever hoped to have at my side. Its not widely reported that the Russians were spending $500 million in aid to the NVA per annum in the late '60s. Nor for that matter that the Chinese had 200,000 "military advisors" in North Vietnam. For historical perspective in this read "Vietnam The Neccesary War". In the context of the 35 year cold war, it was just another proxy duel between us and the communists that may have prevented Indonesia from falling. Who knows how many lives would have been saved if the Democratic Congress hadn't pulled the rug out from under the South. Who knows how much damage this Congress will do. The current situation in Iraq and its coverage in the MSM is hauntingly familiar. As my veteran friends like to say, "We were winning when I left."
