Biden Ignites Furor With Remark on Obama

Submitted by Tom Becker, Feb 1, 2007 06:39

I've heard exceptional people from every background and ethnic group referred to as articulate at one time or another and not automatically considered it to be a patronizing slur, although obviously, one can express racist attitudes in any number of ways, both subtle and overt. For at least the last several decades, however, prominent members of minority groups have been allowed to utter ill-considered, offensive, and even tasteless remarks about white people, while whites (especially white males) must watch every single word that comes out of their mouths or face condemnation and ridicule, even an end to their promising careers. They are expected to know better, which assumes they possess innately superior control of themselves, a racist notion if ever there was one.
