Bolton: U.N. Should Drop Out of Mideast ‘Quartet'

Ah, the musical score: Bolton ten, UN zero! I hated losing him as ambassador, but as a consolation prize I am really enjoying watching what he can say now that he is no longer constrained by that position. I agree with him that the UN really is out of place in the Quartet. Would that be the Trio, perhaps? I think as long as the Palestinian parties are at war among even themselves and Hamas continues to be a terrorist organization while continuing to deny even the existence of Israel as a country, we simply and unfortunately will not see significant progress toward peace there. I believe Bolton recently said something to that effect, too. He is one very bright man. I wish the people at the UN had listened to him more, and I hope our government does now because he has offered a number of very good suggestions for foreign policy in recent interviews. I also hope he passed on a good quality shovel to Ban Ki-moon for shoveling up muck at the UN as he now takes on the role of trying to make needed but often resisted reforms there. I think Ban is a good man and can do a good job there. I just wish people would back off from being so quick to jump at him with criticisms, step back and give him some room to do that job.
