Edwards Becomes the First To Promise a Big Tax Hike

Submitted by Linda Coleman, Feb 5, 2007 11:33

I currently pay for my own health insurance, and although it costs as much as a mortgage payment, I really don't get much for my money. I can't see any doctor I want, but have to pick a name off my insurance company list. The nearest hospital to my home is "out of network."

Under the current plan, my premiums go up if I file a claim, and I could be dropped if I became too much of a "risk" for the insurance company--even though I've paid into this plan for a decade.

I want out of the current insurance-based health care model, and would gladly pay more in tax to get a single-payer universal health care system. Even if my taxes were raised, I would save money by not having to pay for my current insurance policy. My spouse and I currently have a standard deduction of $10,000, and I would love to see a portion of that go towards a universal health care plan. We could see any doctor we want, get preventive tests, and could go to the hospital near our home, if needed, without worrying that it's not in our "network."

You're going to get a lot of comments from insurance company shills saying our current system is great, but it isn't. They're scared to death of single-payer, because it will be the end of their fat profits. We consumers look forward to that day, when we can get out from under the bureaucratic nightmare of our current insurance-based system.
