Spitting on Veterans
in response to reader comment: my country right or wrong?

Submitted by John E. Kraft, Feb 6, 2007 15:56

Mister Lando says Lieutenant Watada, who refused to deploy to Iraq, was merely upholding the Constitution. Hogwash! He is violating the oath of office which he took when the President reposed special trust ahnd confidence in him and granted him a commission. The oath requires that the Lieutenant not only support and defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic, he must also follow the lawful orders of those appointed over him. Despite Mister Lando's mixing metaphors and engaging in personal attacks against the President and Vice President (an official who is not in the chain of command above Lieutenant Watada), the oath that Lieutenant Watada took is precisely the same oath I took during my 25 years of Naval service. Let the court-martial continue and let Lieutenant Watada face appropriate punishment when convicted.
