Many of Joel Klein's ideas on fixing the myriad problems of public education are correct but, the idea that the problem is eased by passing control of funds to the classrom teachers or, even supervisors is not only not part of the solution, but part of the problem. It assumes there is a residue of thought that public schools should be operated for the benefit of students and, that there is a modicum of management skills available in the public school systems. The systems are operated for the benefit of teachers, supedrvisors and far-left propaganda.
Almost all of the ills of public education can be traced to a lack of management, at the school level, the supervisory level, the state level and the national level. Until we have professional management of schools, teachers, supervisor and study programs, nothing will change. These skills are not to be found among teachers and low level supervisory personnel
Until systems have a professional manager, such as one trained in city managment, nothing will change.
The whole idea of the education bureaucracy managing itself is ridiculous.
As long as the bulk of teachers continue to come from the bottom half of their graduating class, insistng that they advance to management makes no sense whatever.
