of the handful of articles i have read on the topic, a few bring up the devastatingly low number of blue whales left in the world. but this number has been used in arguing against icelanders whaling. but this figure has no relevance to the topic. the fin whale population that icelanders hunt from counts about 25800, and is stable. it is localized and doesn't interact with the all but eradicated populations in the southern hemisphere. it is absolutely ludicrous to think that this specific population is at risk of extinction from the small whaling quota of 9 in a year.
