I know about the Ice Age and certainly there has been warming since then which was not the result of human activities. I know about the Little Ice Age that peaked around 400 years ago and of course I understand that there has been warming since then that hasn't been caused by man. I am also aware that there was a warm period about a thousand years ago when the world was much warmer than it is now and that wasn't caused by humans.
I understand that the average sea level rise over the last 10,000 years or so is about 7 inches per century. I've read that the latest IPCC report estimates that sea levels will rise from 7 inches to around 23 inches in this century. Where do Al Gore and the other alarmist on the subject get the idea that sea levels will rise 20 feet in the next 50 years?
My own opinion of the global warming that has happened over the last 10 or 20 centuries is that most of it has been benign. Why do we assume that more of the same would be catastrophic?
