Lawmakers Meet To Discuss Workers' Compensation Changes

Submitted by Steven Miller, Feb 13, 2007 12:49

There appears to be a coordinated approach to eviscerate workers' compensation benefits in almost every state, even those that implemented "reform" in years past. The business community has successfully organized nationwide and uses the very same arguments in each state they attack, i.e.: the highest costs, lowest benefits, a drag on the economy, discourages business development, etc. Unfortunately, because workers' comp is a benefit conferred by each state individually, most people do not recognize the divide and conquer strategy that is in place because each state has a separate system and therefore is already conveniently divided. It seems clear to me that each state cannot uniquely have the highest costs, lowest benefits, etc. so these arguments must ultimately fail to hold water.

Perhaps this is the story that should be investigated and publicized and not the talking point memos of the interested parties.
