I like Bernie as much as other Yankee fans. But insisting on a contract from a team that doesn't need him or have room for him strikes me as silly. Either look at other teams (though most wouldn't have a place for him), accept the Yankees invitation to spring training, or retire.
There was nothing wrong with Bernie considering the Red Sox as a free agent a few years back (and according to Buster Olney, he was literally seconds from accepting when the Yankees called him). There's also nothing wrong with the Yankees deciding that they need to move on. Bernie should too.
