First, thanks for an entertaining, balanced and articulate peice of tennis journalism.
As a Scot who has seen a few false dawns in British tennis Andy Murray is a breath of fresh air. Often perceived by some in the UK as petulant on court and lacking in the 'grace' of players such as Tim Henman (I am a fan of what Henman achieved and his part in raising the profile of UK tennis), Andy Murray brings a fresh, exciting, and hungry dynamism to UK tennis.
His rise up the rankings has been swift but also impressive is his ability to stay 'grounded' in dealings with the media. When he emerged into the main tour he took much criticism in the UK for his on court verbal volleys and his lack of fitness. Many from the UK, at that age and stage of their career, would not have coped, Andy Murray is flurishing.
Talent alone is rarely enough, but with the inspired selection of Brad Gilbert as coach to guide, direct and inspire Murray . We may at last have a future world number one and Grand Slam winner but also someone to keep the passion, excitment and rivalry alive at the top of the world game.
