Do the people clamoring for victory have a clue what a victory is. Yea Yea I know -- a unified and democratic Iraq. Of course the great debate is whether the Iraqis themselves want this. The Kurds have clearly shown a preference for a separate Kurdish state. The Shiites seem to want a unified state only to the extent that they can exact revenge on the Sunnis and Baathists with their tyranny of the majority. And most of the Shiites seem to prefer some kind of clerical state to any real democracy, The Sunnis want a unified state only to the extent that they can rule it. The El Qaedists want a new Caliphate. What's the victory here? Until our leaders can answer that, I wouldn't sacrifice even one more American life.
