Gold Glove Awards Steeped in Tradition and Absurdity

Yes the golden gloves are flawed and some on that list while not the greatest to ever play their position are on the list. Two things in your entire column are far more flawed, first it the finest gold glove award winners since its inception not in the history of baseball. Second its theonly since 1957 many of the greatest players at a given position never played in an era with the gold gloves.

You also fail to give credit where its due Keith Hernandez and Don Mattingly while both being good offensive players ARE historically (by the statistics) among the best to ever play first base. Omar Vizquel, Brooks Robinson, Mike Schmidt again at their positions. Jim Kaat hardly a superstar player is one of the best pitchers on the last 30 year in term of wins 278 wins DON'T LIE and he was an excellent fielder,so why fault him for winning something he really deserved because you dislike the system that presents it to him? Why hasn't Mariano Rivera had a gold glove? Superstar pitcher, literaly hall of fame material out of the gate, yet he does not pitch long enough for people to notice how well he fields his position.

Point is some of the people on the ballot ARE the best ever to play their positions during this year period your argument that some of the best are left off from all time is mute since the pool is dwindled. Just accept it like any election a contest of mixed bag of candidates good ones are not always popular and occasionally the cream rises to the top, just people like you can skim it off and flush it down the drain.
